CUSSA talk culture, laughs and quiz nights

Clubs Days are finally here and we’re buzzing. 💥 If you’re keen on joining up to an international club, there are a heap of options, including the Samoan Students’ Association, or ‘CUSSA’.

The group was established back in 1960 as the first uni club for Samoan students in NZ. As well as providing support, they’re all about celebrating their shared culture, and they welcome everyone to get involved.

“Being part of the Cussa aiga means sharing food, music, laughter and a culture that we all love.”

How would you describe your club to newbies?

We are a club that welcomes any student looking for a home away from home. It is named after Samoan students; however, anyone is welcome to join. You can find fun, craziness, mad sense of humour, a study partner and get to make a friend that lasts for lifetime.

What do you offer students?

A break from studies, experiencing and learning about our culture and meeting new friends that become family in the end.

What’s your best club memory?

Welcoming new faces every year, I gotta admit that is the best feeling ever.

What events do you run?

We have social events as a stress reliever, quiz nights, short events for language weeks and not forgetting our main event “Sootaga”, a fellowship event for all Samoan student clubs from other universities in New Zealand.

Does CUSSA sound like a bit of you? Head to Clubs Day during O.Week and RE-ORI, or get in touch with the club directly to ask them about joining online.

UCSA has a Club Database online – there are around 130 clubs and societies to choose from!

Follow CUSSA on Facebook and Instagram or visit their website.
