SUMMARY:MONO Presents: Molly & the Chromatics\, Frank Booker\, 0800 & No Comply
DESCRIPTION:It’s the last week of term and we are celebrating with 4 headline worthy acts on one awesome line up! \n(We definitely didn’t double book the show or anything) \nFeaturing:\nMolly and the Chromatics\nFrank Booker\n0800\nNo Comply\nw/ Support from SUG \n\nMolly & the Chromatics\nMolly & The Chromatics have developed their jazz/funk/pop fusion sound via extensive touring and slots at festivals including Rhythm & Vines\, Bay Dreams\, Soundsplash\, Outfield Festival\, Le Currents and Tora Bombora. \nDon’t miss Molly & The Chromatics’ exciting\, dynamic and enchanting stage presence at Mono Night! \nFrank Booker\nFrank Booker has quietly built a worldwide reputation for incredible edits and DJ sets. His releases have gained huge support from heavy hitting Disco and Deep House DJs such as Horse Meat Disco\, Todd Terje\, Rahaan\, Detroit Swindle\, Session Victim\, Red Greg\, Jimpster\, DJ Nature and many more. \nWhen DJing his music spans a wide array of quality Black dance music: From deepest Disco\, to 80’s boogie and cutting edge house music\, as well as some super special re-edits all put together with a focus firmly on the dancers. Keep on! \n0800\nAuckland hip-hop collective 0800 formed when a group of rappers\, producers and visual artists came together one late night in the studio. This quickly turned into the group releasing a dynamic string of singles and eye catching videos over the next two years. The group bonded over their mutual love for the alternative hip hop scene\, but also each brought in their own unique tastes from other styles\, creating a sound that is genre-defying and refreshingly different. \nNo Comply\nNew Zealand rapper/producer duo\, NO COMPLY take their music seriously\, but themselves\, not so much. Their music is bold and considered\, yet they infuse a playful and melodic take on the rapidly changing\, forever evolving\, genre we know and love as hip hop \nThe MONO specific stuff:\n– Mono is R18 – Bring your Passport\, 18+ card or NZ Drivers licence.\n– Don’t forget your UC Student ID!\n– Not a UC student? Then you better find a mate who is! You won’t get in otherwise. You are their plus one. Note: It’s plus one not plus five!\n– Not a UC student’s plus one? Sorry team\, this ones not for you.\n– Remember to get in early! Its $10 on the door for your non UC plus one after 9pm (Eftpos only)\n– Make sure you’ve got the GOVT NZ COVID tracer app. You’ll need it to sign in

SUMMARY:CANTA presents: The Ed Wood’s Student Film Awards
DESCRIPTION:The (not so?) great Ed Wood is widely regarded as the “Worst Director of All Time”. His films are notable for their campy aesthetics\, technical errors\, unsophisticated special effects\, use of ill-fitting stock footage and eccentric casts. \nIn the spirit of Ed Wood\, we are on the lookout for the “best worst film” at the 2021 Ed Wood Student Film Awards \nTo be part of student filmmaking immortality\, all you have to do is create a film and enter it into one of the following categories: \n\n“Feature” Length Film\n\n1 – 5 minutes long\nOriginal (although feel free to rip off some other film…)\nMade mostly by UC students (hey\, a bit of outside help is OK)\n\n\n\n  \n\nOne Minute Wonder\n\nUp to 1 minute long\nCan be anything! (Literally anything…)\nMade mostly by UC students (hey\, a bit of outside help is OK)\n\n\n\nAwards will be presented for: \n\nBest (Worst) Actor\nBest (Worst) Cinematography\nBest (Worst) Editing\nBest (Worst) Soundtrack\nBest (Worst) Costumes\nBest (Worst) Special Effects\nBest Celebrity Cameo\nBest use of Whiteware\nBest (Worst) film (Under 5min Long)\nPeople’s choice award\nBest (Worst) worst Speech\n\n  \nYou can use any camera you want to make the film. Your dad’s flash RED. Your brother’s handicam. Your dog’s iPhone. All that matters is that the film is (somewhat) watchable. And listenable. Think about audio. PLEASE think about audio… \nFilms must be submitted to the events@ucsa.org.nz via Dropbox\, or on a USB drive. It’s OK\, we’ll give you the USB drive back. \nIdeally\, the final format would be an .mp4 or .mov – but if it plays on VLC\, you should be fine. \nUCSA reserves the right to remove any film that is deemed too offensive\, or just plain horrible to watch/listen to. Our standards are pretty low. If in doubt\, ask us first. \nUCSA also reserves the right to make use of any film submitted. \nSend any questions to: events@ucsa.org.nz \n  \nEd Wood Rules 2021 \n\nYou can use old footage of yours if you choose to\, but you need to put it together during this time.\nThe categories for entry are:\n\n\n“Feature” Length Film\n\nBetween 1 minute and 5 minutes long\, including any titles and credits.\nOriginal (although feel free to rip off some other film…)\nCan be about anything – show us your creativity!\n\n\nOne Minute Wonder\n\nNo more than 1 minute long\, including any titles and credits.\nCan be anything! (Literally anything… we have had a clip reel of a guy scaring his flatmate)\nBasically a good insta story…\n\n\n\n\nThe ‘film’ must be delivered using our recommended file specs by midnight Sunday\, 19th of May\, uploaded via our online form.\nYou must have the rights to all material that appears in the ‘Film’. Please ensure you have permission from all actors\, locations\, music and anything else that you need permission for that you use in the ‘Film’.\nDo not upload the ‘film’ onto the internet until after the screening night.\nYou can use any camera you want to make the “film”\, however all that matters is that the “film” is (somewhat) watchable\, and listenable. You must think about audio. PLEASE think about audio…\nThe UCSA will remove any film that is deemed too offensive\, or just plain horrible to watch/listen to. Our standards are pretty low. If in doubt\, ask us first.\nThe UCSA has the right to make use of any film submitted.

SUMMARY:UC Arts | New Music Central | L A Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:Monday 17th May – 7:00pm to 8:30pm – Recital Room\, UC Arts City Location\, 3 Hereford Street \nThis Performance will feature L A Mitchell stripping back her soul set to show case her voice & piano and the voices of her three backing vocalists\, Kate Taylor\, Roz Ulaula and Vai Punivai. You can expect to hear a collection of her well know songs from Fly My Pretties; some soul favourites she loves and a small collection of new material all re-imagined for the intimacy of 4 voices and a piano. \nL A Mitchell has been a stealth operator in New Zealand Music \, her credentials will surprise you\, having performed support for Lionel Richie\, Stevie Wonder and Guy Sebastian. Worked alongside Dave Dobbyn\, Bic Runga\, Tim Finn\, Anna Coddington & Sola Rosa & Dukes. Her name in New Zealand is synonymously connected with the juggernaut group\, ‘Fly My Pretties’ backed by Black Seeds front man\, Barnaby Weir and for many her Live at the Matterhorn release was a sensation in the underground soul audience that still holds a great connection to fans of the record. Her most recent work has been with her Husband\, Matt Barus\, on their duo project Terrible Sons. They’ve quietly amassed over 18million streams and over 146\,000 people listening each month to the duos acoustic indie folk. She has also been nominated for the Apra Silver Scroll top 20 list 3 times. Though she may walk quietly in an industry that often yells she is known as a mighty musician with a mighty voice and known in the industry by her peers as a musician with a serious knowledge about her craft. \nLEARN MORE
