DESCRIPTION:Fast rising New Zealand artist BAYNK will play the first show in the new UCSA Ngaio Marsh Theatre in the new Haere-Roa building this July. \nAll tickets includes a $1.00 donation to ‘Christchurch Mayoral Fund – Our People\, Our City’ Foundation! \nBorn Jock Nowell-Usticke\, BAYNK has been on a fast rise over the past couple years. Breaking into the scene in early 2015\, BAYNK’s beginnings is the unlikely story of a kid who uploaded a song to Soundcloud while on holiday in Europe – who after losing his laptop and going surfing for a week\, returned to find the track going ballistic with praise and attention from new fans and music industry. \nFollowed by a steady release of singles since then\, the young producer has clocked up more than 82 million plays on Spotify alone\, with early singles like ‘About Me’ and ‘Could You’ turning heads early on in 2016\, marking him a top new artist to watch. BAYNK’s pop sensibilities set him on a level of his own. DESCRIPTION:DramaSoc’s newest competition event is coming to the Bentley’s stage as a part of Music and Arts in May! \nGet ready for a night of never-before-seen plays; written\, directed and performed by your fellow students (and honorary students 😉). All prepared within 48 hours before they come on stage and compete for the audience’s attention and applause. DESCRIPTION:A weekend getaway for UC postgraduate thesis students to get together as a group and get some of that pesky thesis written! \nWe will head to the secluded Cass Station to get some scholarly inspiration from the pristine hills and nature all around\, away from the reach of the digitally-connected world (i.e.\, no cell phone connection and stone-age Wi-Fi). We will aim to meet some writing goals over the two days\, while also taking breaks to socialise\, talk about our precious research\, explore the outdoors (or curl up inside the blanket\, if you prefer)\, prepare meals together\, and of course\, lots and lots of coffee! \nSome other details below: \nTicket cost: $25 (covers all meals and beverages; free accommodation).\nTransport: Carpooling to be arranged. DESCRIPTION:One of those events that you might not normally go to\, but should be part of anyone’s Uni experience. Grab a wine\, pretend to be classy and come get some culture. \nWith a varied line up of UC student poets\, covering styles from classical to experimental (like real experimental)\, this will be an evening that will entertain\, excite and challenge. \n1. AMBERLEIGH ROSE\nAmberleigh Rose writes playfully\, with good humour and a witty edge. Her observational poetry is surprising\, funny\, and melancholy. Amberleigh’s work previously debuted at the National Youth Drama School. \n2. LIAM GIBSON\nLiam Gibson fuses the scientific with the spiritual in romantic poems and dirty rhymes. His study of physics leaks through his work; easily distinguished through its astonishing structural rigidity and scientific imagery. This is his public poetry debut. \n3. FELIX ELLIOTT A newcomer to the Christchurch poetry scene\, Felix’s poetry is direct\, bold\, confrontational\, and completely fresh. This work has never been seen anywhere before. \n4. SAM JORY-SMART\nSam JS is a classical poet transforming the world into words through lyric form. Her work has been published across New Zealand. This will be her debut poetry reading. \n5. JOSIAH MORGAN\nJosiah Morgan is an experimental poet dealing with the intersection of sex\, violence and identity head-on. His debut poetry collection ‘Inside the Castle’ was published in February\, 2019\, and has been described as ‘The Waste Land for the 21st century’.
