DESCRIPTION:DramaSoc’s newest competition event is coming to the Bentley’s stage as a part of Music and Arts in May! \nGet ready for a night of never-before-seen plays; written\, directed and performed by your fellow students (and honorary students 😉). All prepared within 48 hours before they come on stage and compete for the audience’s attention and applause. Also in the event will be some improv fun from the ‘Say What?’ troupe.  \nIf you are up to the task you can come as you are\, or with a friend or 2 and you’ll find yourself grouped with other fellows for a challenge to create something from prompts and props handed to you only 48 hours before the house lights come down. \nIf you are interested in taking part in the event as an actor/director/writer then head to this link to sign up: http://2d2p.dramasoc.org.nz \nNote that participants will be required to be present at the briefing at 6:30pm on Friday night and at the final rehearsals on Sunday afternoon. DESCRIPTION:A weekend getaway for UC postgraduate thesis students to get together as a group and get some of that pesky thesis written! \nWe will head to the secluded Cass Station to get some scholarly inspiration from the pristine hills and nature all around\, away from the reach of the digitally-connected world (i.e.\, no cell phone connection and stone-age Wi-Fi). We will aim to meet some writing goals over the two days\, while also taking breaks to socialise\, talk about our precious research\, explore the outdoors (or curl up inside the blanket\, if you prefer)\, prepare meals together\, and of course\, lots and lots of coffee! \nSome other details below: \nTicket cost: $25 (covers all meals and beverages; free accommodation).\nTransport: Carpooling to be arranged. Fuel cost about $10 per head.\nTickets available: 35\nFood: We will carry our groceries and cook at the venue.\nWhat to Bring: Laptop\, any writing material required; sleeping bag or blankets/duvet\, bed-sheets\, and pillow cases (mattress and pillows provided).\nFacilities available at venue: Workstations\, beds\, kitchen\, shower and toilet; heating and hot water.

DESCRIPTION:One of those events that you might not normally go to\, but should be part of anyone’s Uni experience. Grab a wine\, pretend to be classy and come get some culture. \nWith a varied line up of UC student poets\, covering styles from classical to experimental (like real experimental)\, this will be an evening that will entertain\, excite and challenge. \n1. AMBERLEIGH ROSE\nAmberleigh Rose writes playfully\, with good humour and a witty edge. Her observational poetry is surprising\, funny\, and melancholy. Amberleigh’s work previously debuted at the National Youth Drama School. \n2. LIAM GIBSON\nLiam Gibson fuses the scientific with the spiritual in romantic poems and dirty rhymes. His study of physics leaks through his work; easily distinguished through its astonishing structural rigidity and scientific imagery. This is his public poetry debut. \n3. FELIX ELLIOTT A newcomer to the Christchurch poetry scene\, Felix’s poetry is direct\, bold\, confrontational\, and completely fresh. This work has never been seen anywhere before. \n4. SAM JORY-SMART\nSam JS is a classical poet transforming the world into words through lyric form. Her work has been published across New Zealand. This will be her debut poetry reading. \n5. JOSIAH MORGAN\nJosiah Morgan is an experimental poet dealing with the intersection of sex\, violence and identity head-on. His debut poetry collection ‘Inside the Castle’ was published in February\, 2019\, and has been described as ‘The Waste Land for the 21st century’.

DESCRIPTION:From May 10th to May 12th\, one hundred of us volunteers will go to Kaikoura and do all sorts of volunteering work\, helping around the community where we can and having a meaningful impact on the people of Kaikoura. We will leave from Foundry Carpark at 2pm\, May 10th\, and will return on May 12th around lunchtime. \nFood will be provided for all volunteers including vegetarian and halal options. Transport and accommodation are covered. There will also be free time for volunteers to explore and enjoy Kaikoura’s beauty. \nFurther information about what to bring and what volunteering we are doing is provided on the Facebook event on the Student Volunteer Army Facebook page.
