Te Akatoki and the UCSA jointly invites the UC community to come together at Te Ahunga o Matariki and celebrate the Māori New Year!

Te Ahunga o Matariki is an initiative to enhance, celebrate and indulge in the journey of Matariki with all its cultural richness.

The Matariki Formal celebration is a culmination of a week of festivities that enhance the mana motuhake of Māori, awareness and participation in Te Ao Māori ahurea, and creating platforms to connect tauira with their identity to better equipped tauira succession.

Te Ahunga o Matariki aims to be a series of events, lessons and celebrations including;

• Hākari (Feast)
• Māra Kai Workshop (Garden)
• Hīkoi (Walk)
• Toiora (Yoga)
• Formal Dinner
