Postgrad Update with George, Your UCSA Rep

Kia ora koutou katoa,

Is anyone else wondering how it is November already? (Like how is it the end of the year next month!) I hope everyone was able to make the most of the in person Gradfest sessions. It was great to be able to have a BBQ to close off the week again!

If you missed the BBQ in Gradfest week, don’t worry! There is another PG event brought to you by the UCSA on the 10th of November at 5pm! We know that for a number of you the year is not over! The event is being held at the Haere-roa BBQ area and there will be a variety of options available to suit a range of diets. I look forward to seeing you there to mix and mingle with other PG students on what has been an eventful year! Check out the Facebook event here.

Following on from last month. I have had a meeting about Teaching Assistant pay rate inconsistencies, but at this stage have nothing further to report. This is the same for progress on the Career Development Framework.

Congratulations to the 46 students who have been offered UC Aho Hīnātore (Accelerator) Scholarships to begin their PhD studies next year! It will be cool to see you at the PG events! I hope that you project goes well over the summer!

Big thanks to everyone who has signed up to be a part of UCSA’s Postgraduate Advisory Group (PGAG) next year! It will be super useful for the incoming PG Rep Beatrice Holman and the rest of the 2021 UCSA Exec to get feedback from PG students about PG issues!

As always, if you have any ideas on how the UCSA can improve the postgrad experience, please get in contact. The UCSA would love to hear your ideas on areas that we can improve on. Feel free to get in contact with the UCSA PG Rep via email: postgraduate@ucsa.org.nz or Facebook.

Ngā mihi,

George Stilwell
Postgraduate Representative
2020 UCSA Executive
