Tips for keeping the neighbours sweet
Planning a flat party this O.Week? Here’s our advice for keeping your neighbours (and Noise Control) happy!
1) Be a friendly face
Introduce yourself, flash a smile. It helps build the relationship.
2) Talk to your neighbours early-on
Let them know you’re having a party and tell them a finish time. They’ll probably be more patient on the night!
Bonus points if you give them a phone number, so they can ring you during the party if they have any concerns – before they ring anyone else.
3) Reduce noise
Avoid complaints by keeping the sound level reasonable. A key gripe is the bass level so turn down the bass knob on your stereo to reduce how much the sound travels.
If a noise control officer does turn up, make yourself known and work with them. If you do, you’ll have a better chance of avoiding other issues.
4) Don’t leave broken glass on the ground
Think of the dogs!
5) Operation clean-up
The next morning, get out and clean any party rubbish off the street. It might help to ease any tensions …
Another great move is to check-in with your neighbours to see if they had any issues, and do what you can to fix any problems.
6) Stick to the COVID-19 Red Level rules
Not sure what they are? Check out our blog post or the Government COVID-19 webpage.
7) Ask guests to leave quietly
If you have any die-hards, turning the music off is a great way to signal it’s time to go …
8) Keep things under control
We’re talking no open invites, hanging out on the streets, or flaming couches.
9) Leave traffic signs alone
They keep the streets safe, and you risk a bit of grief if you’re caught stealing them.
10) Register with Good One Party Register
It’s there to help people have great parties where everyone feels safe and stays safe. #lessdrama #moreparty
